How Dubai uses cookies, localStorage, and similar tracking technologies, and how you can manage your preferences.
1. Introduction
Dubai Marketplace FZ-LLC ("Dubai", "we", "us", "our") is committed to transparency about the technologies we use when you visit the Dubai platform ("the Service"). This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar tracking technologies are, which ones we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.
This policy is issued under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection ("PDPL") and its implementing regulations, which require data controllers to inform individuals about the collection of personal data. Certain cookies collect or interact with personal data; where they do, our Privacy Policy (available at /privacy) also applies.
By continuing to use the Service after being presented with our consent banner, you acknowledge this policy and, where applicable, consent to non-essential cookies in accordance with PDPL Article 9.
2. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
2.1 Browser Cookies
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, tablet, smartphone, or other internet-connected device) by a website you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, or to work more efficiently, and to provide information to the owners of the site. Cookies can be "persistent" (remaining on your device until they expire or you delete them) or "session-based" (deleted when you close your browser).
2.2 localStorage and sessionStorage
In addition to cookies, the Service may use the browser's localStorage and sessionStorage Web Storage APIs to persist state on your device. These function similarly to cookies but are not transmitted to our servers on every HTTP request; instead, they are read by client-side JavaScript. They may store information such as recently viewed listings, search filters you have applied, and UI preferences.
2.3 Pixel Tags and Web Beacons
We and our advertising partners may use pixel tags (also known as web beacons or clear GIFs), which are tiny transparent image files embedded in web pages or emails. Pixel tags allow us to verify that content has been viewed and to measure engagement.
2.4 Device Fingerprinting
We do not use device fingerprinting for marketing purposes. Limited fingerprinting data (browser type, operating system, approximate screen resolution) may be collected as part of fraud-prevention and security monitoring.
3. Our Three Cookie Categories
We classify all cookies set by the Dubai domain into three categories: Essential, Analytics, and Marketing. You can manage your preferences for Analytics and Marketing cookies at any time (see Section 5). Essential cookies cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
3.1 Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are strictly necessary to provide the Service and cannot be turned off. They include cookies that enable authentication, security controls, language preference, and consent state. Because they are required to provide the service you have requested, they do not require your consent under the PDPL. They never track your activity for advertising purposes.
3.2 Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies collect anonymous or pseudonymous information about how you use the Service — for example, which pages you visit, how long you spend on each page, and where errors occur. We use this information to understand usage patterns and improve the platform. These cookies do not identify you personally. We require your consent before placing analytics cookies.
3.3 Marketing Cookies
Marketing cookies track your browsing activity across websites to enable personalised advertising and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. They may be set by Dubai or by our advertising partners. These cookies collect information about your interests and may build a profile for ad targeting. We require your explicit consent before placing marketing cookies.
4. Cookie Inventory
The following table lists the specific cookies set by the Dubai domain. Third-party cookies set by our sub-processors are described separately in Section 6.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Category | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
next-auth.session-token | Authenticates your session so you remain logged in across page loads. Contains an encrypted token that references your session record on our servers. | Essential | Until browser close (session) or 30 days if "Remember me" is selected |
next-auth.csrf-token | Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection token. Prevents malicious third-party websites from submitting actions on your behalf. | Essential | Session (deleted on browser close) |
NEXT_LOCALE | Stores your selected language and locale preference (en, ar, or ru) so the correct language is served on subsequent visits. | Essential | 1 year |
dubai_consent | Records your cookie consent choices (which categories you have accepted or declined) so we do not ask again on subsequent visits. | Essential | 1 year |
_gg_analytics | Anonymous session analytics — page views, click paths, time-on-page. Does not contain personally identifiable information. | Analytics | 90 days |
_gg_perf | Measures page load performance and Core Web Vitals to help us optimise the platform. Anonymous. | Analytics | 30 days |
_gg_adattr | Ad attribution cookie — records which advertising campaign or referral source brought you to Dubai so we can measure campaign effectiveness. | Marketing | 30 days |
_gg_rtg | Remarketing audience cookie — enables us to show Dubai ads to users who have previously visited the Service on third-party ad platforms. | Marketing | 180 days |
This list is reviewed and updated whenever new cookies are introduced. The most current version of the inventory is published in this policy.
5. Managing Your Consent
5.1 Consent Banner
On your first visit to the Service, you will see a cookie consent banner. The banner allows you to:
- Accept All — enable all three categories;
- Essential Only — limit cookies to the Essential category;
- Manage Preferences — toggle individual categories on or off before deciding.
Your choice is saved in the dubai_consent cookie. It does not expire automatically for 12 months, after which we will ask again.
5.2 Updating Your Preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by visiting Account → Privacy Settings at /account/privacy. The preference centre allows you to independently enable or disable Analytics and Marketing categories without affecting Essential cookies.
5.3 Browser-Level Controls
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically configure your browser to:
- Block all cookies;
- Block third-party cookies only;
- Notify you before a cookie is placed; or
- Delete cookies when you close the browser.
Please note that blocking Essential cookies will prevent core features — including logging in — from working correctly. Browser controls do not affect localStorage or sessionStorage, which must be cleared separately through your browser's site data settings. Detailed instructions for the most common browsers are available on the browser developers' websites.
5.4 Opt-Out Tools
For analytics and advertising, the following industry opt-out tools may also be useful:
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out Tool — optout.networkadvertising.org
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Opt-Out Tool — optout.aboutads.info
- Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On — tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
6. Third-Party Cookies
Some features of the Service are provided by third-party sub-processors, who may set their own cookies on your device. Examples include payment processing, fraud prevention, and advertising networks. We have no direct control over these third-party cookies; their use is governed by the respective third parties' privacy and cookie policies.
A full list of our sub-processors, including those that may set cookies, is maintained at /trust/subprocessors. We keep this list current and review it at least annually. We recommend reviewing sub-processor privacy policies directly if you have specific concerns.
7. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time in response to changes in applicable law, our technical practices, or our business activities. When we make material changes, we will update the effectiveDate shown at the top of this page and, where required by law, seek fresh consent. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
